Accessibility

We want every calculator on this site to work for everyone — whether you navigate by mouse, keyboard, screen reader, or touch, and whether or not you can see colour or fine detail. Accessibility here is not an afterthought bolted on at the end; it is built into the way the pages are made.

Our standard

We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C, the same standard most governments require. We are an independent site and do not claim a formal third-party audit, but we test against these criteria ourselves and fix what falls short.

What we have built in

  • Keyboard navigation. Every tool, link, and menu works without a mouse. Use Tab to move through controls, and the arrow keys to move between calculator cards and inside the Calculators menu. Esc closes the menu.
  • Visible focus. Wherever you are with the keyboard, a clear outline shows it — never a mystery.
  • Screen-reader support. Pages use real landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer), a "skip to content" link, labelled form fields, and live regions so results are announced as they update. Charts carry text descriptions.
  • Colour is never the only signal. Chart lines are told apart by solid vs dashed strokes and labels, not colour alone — so they read correctly with any form of colour blindness.
  • Contrast. Text meets or exceeds the AA contrast ratio, in both light and dark mode.
  • Dark mode and reduced motion. A one-tap dark theme, and all animation is disabled automatically if your system requests reduced motion.
  • Readable, resizable. Text scales with your browser zoom without breaking the layout, and no information is locked inside images.
  • Privacy-respecting. Calculations run in your browser; we do not track your inputs.

Where we are still improving

Honesty matters here. We are actively working on richer text alternatives for the more complex charts, larger touch targets on a few older controls, and a full independent screen-reader pass. This page will be updated as those land.

Found a barrier?

If anything on this site was hard or impossible to use with your assistive technology, that is a bug and we want to fix it. Please tell us what you were using and where you got stuck on the contact page. Reports about accessibility go to the top of the list.
