Auto Insurance Estimate Calculator

A rough, orientation-only estimate of yearly car insurance cost. Real premiums are set by dozens of factors we cannot see (your state, ZIP code, exact record, credit, mileage), so treat this as a ballpark range to sanity-check quotes — never as a quote itself.

Orientation estimate only — not a quote. Real car-insurance prices depend on your state, ZIP code, exact driving record, credit, annual mileage, and insurer, which this tool cannot see. Always get real quotes.

This is a ballpark to sanity-check real quotes, not a price. Get actual quotes from insurers before deciding anything.

Quick answer: For full coverage, US drivers commonly pay somewhere around $1,500–$2,500 a year, but the real range is enormous — a clean-record driver in a rural state might pay under $1,000, while a young driver in a high-cost city can pay several times that. This tool gives a rough band; only real quotes give a price.

Why this is a range, not a price

Car insurance is one of the hardest costs to estimate, because insurers price it on factors this calculator cannot know: your state and exact ZIP code (rates vary wildly block to block), your full driving record, your credit-based insurance score (used in most states), your annual mileage, your age and years licensed, and each company's own formula. Two identical cars on the same street can pay double one another.

So this tool gives a deliberately wide ballpark range from the few factors that move price the most — coverage level, deductible, vehicle value, and a rough risk profile. Use it to sanity-check whether a real quote looks high or low, not to predict your bill.

What actually lowers your premium

  • Raise your deductible if you have the emergency fund to cover it — going from $250 to $1,000 typically cuts the comprehensive/collision portion noticeably.
  • Drop collision/comprehensive on an old car. Once a car is worth only a few thousand dollars, paying to insure its value often costs more over time than the car is worth.
  • Shop every renewal. Insurers raise rates on loyal customers; quotes from 3–4 companies once a year is the single biggest lever most drivers have.
  • Bundle auto with renters or homeowners for a multi-policy discount.

Before buying a car, check the total cost of ownership with the car affordability calculator and the loan cost on the car loan calculator — insurance is a big part of what a car really costs.

Frequently asked questions

How much does car insurance cost per year?

For full coverage, US drivers commonly pay somewhere around $1,500–$2,500 a year, but the real range is enormous — a clean-record driver in a rural state might pay under $1,000, while a young driver in a high-cost city can pay several times that. This tool gives a rough band; only real quotes give a price.

Is this an actual car insurance quote?

No. It is an orientation estimate from a handful of factors. Insurers price on your state, ZIP code, exact record, credit, mileage, and their own formulas, none of which this tool can see. Always get real quotes before deciding.

Should I get full coverage or liability only?

Full coverage (comprehensive + collision) protects your own car and makes sense on a newer or financed vehicle. On an older car worth only a few thousand dollars, liability-only is often the cheaper long-run choice. Compare the premium difference against what your car is actually worth.

Does raising my deductible lower my premium?

Yes — a higher deductible lowers the comprehensive and collision portion of your premium, because you are agreeing to pay more out of pocket in a claim. Only raise it as high as your emergency fund can comfortably cover.
